COASTAL CLEAN UP 2021

In 2021 Joe and Marie, the scientists from Auckland University, were back to help us with our annual Coastal Clean-up. Every year the school and the community do a clean-up around the coasts of Port Fitzroy, Kawa, Motairehe, Whangapoua, Mohunga/Nagles and Kaikoura Island. We collect rubbish from the beaches and sort it, lots of it is recycled and the rest is [usually] taken to the island's landfill. However, this year Sanford also came over to help. They took the rubbish back to the mainland in big fadge bags on their mussel barge. We have been lobbying to Sanford to implement better fishing practices to help keep our oceans clean and our kai moana safe and thriving.
